To teach in undergraduate and post graduate students with the knowledge of genetics, animal breeding and advanced reproductive techniques in view to produce better quality. To undertake research on genetic improvement for livestock and poultry.

To enrich knowledge on various laws and principles of genetics, breeding, and practices of new techniques of advanced reproduction and breeding for genetic improvement of livestock and poultry by education, research and extension.  

To give knowledge on basic principles of heredity and variation in livestock and poultry.

To teach methodologies and techniques related to designing the breeding scheme; and analyze the basic data on livestock and poultry production.

To estimate genetic parameters, develop selection index and estimate the genetic gain for genetic improvement of milk and meat production.

To familiarize the student with the principles and methods of advanced biotechnologies (Artificial Insemination (A.I),Multiple ovulation and Embryo Transfer (MOET) and Genetic Engineering) used in animal improvement.

To develop integrated learning process for veterinary undergraduates by reviewing the present syllabus and curriculum.

To conduct both adaptive and basic research on available genetic resources of livestock and poultry.

To undertake research on breeding scheme development and simulation modeling..

To establish a molecular biology laboratory and a germ plasm bank for proven sires and extinct livestock and poultry genetic resources of Bangladesh..
