The department of Microbiology is one of the important para-clinical departments involved in preparing the undergraduate students to be competent and confidant undertaking clinical courses in advanced academic semesters. Through the teaching approaches of this department, they can appreciate well the conceptual and factual understandings of the roles of microbes and viruses in the pathogenesis of important diseases of animals with their laboratory diagnostic pathways knowing detail biology of the pathogens. Also the students are equipped with knowledge implied on how to safeguarding public health from foods of animal origin and zoonotic diseases. At the beginning of each course, its lesson contents—in concise forms, are supplied to the students in an approved manual. The department is committed to undertaking research emphasized on higher degrees like, M Phil and PhD, and currently, in collaboration with Chittagong University, three such research programmes are going on. Linked to the teaching veterinary hospital of CVASU, this department has also been providing disease-diagnostic services of livestock to the local and regional farmers of greater Chittagong.
